The performance benefit of the Exige comes from a more track oriented suspension tune as well as a aerodynamics that increase that increase the cars grip by adding more downforce (looks like the Exige Top speed is a little lower than the Elise at 147 vs. 151).
The Exige is definitely more of a purpose built “track car” that can be driven on the street.
The Exige is also listed at 1925 lbs 50lbs lighter than the US Spec Elise (1975 lbs).
