Just got a built date!

Dealer called me today to tell me that my car is sceduled to be built early next month (August) and I was 2nd on the list. I ordered a magnetic blue car.

He also asked me if I wanted to purchase the 3m-like clear bra for the front,etc...only $999. What are they nuts or do they think we are?

You better re-think that clear bra. Being as low to the gound as the Elise is will
result in all kinds of debris peppering your body and will result in your need to have re-sprays every year or so. 3M has
designed these 'numerous' sections of clear-bra to not only be difficult to detect by the human eye but to also keep your car in original-like condition.

I email Speed Lingerie and they do not have a bra for the Elise yet. They did state that if there were 12 customers interested that they would do it.
Something else to consider.

Does anyone out there have the 3M coating on their car? How does is work?
I can see how it would stop small pebbles from doing damage, but I can't see it stopping larger rocks.

your dealer is feeding you a line of crap. the factory is closed the entire month of august for "holiday". there is no possible way your car is being built during the month of august.

Actually I think the general consensus is that it would be very unusual if Lotus closed their factory for the whole month of August. I thought they were closing for 2 weeks or so, so it's not impossible your car could be built in August.

And the clear bra will probably be worth your while, you should at least not rule it out. They are generally well recommended by current owners.

I think ur dealer is telling you want you want to hear. My dealer in Clearwater Fl called me last week after he got a faxed copy of his first allotment from Lotus. He is getting the first six cars last of July or early Aug. these cars are already built and are to arrive in port today, the 17th. It will then be two weeks before he recieves them and one will be the demo. I do not understand how you are number two on the list and the car is still not built. My car is in the first six cars he is recieving.

The factory is closed for one week in August. I should know because I will be there for a factory tour and a driving school in August.:D Lotus told me they could not do the factory tour the first week in August because the factory will be closed.

How did you find out about this? I'm thinking my car should be ready late 2005, I'd love to go do a factory tour to see it at final assembly plus a driving school form Lotus. HEck, if only they offered European delivery so I could tour in it.

Scott

European delivery is not an option at this point.

I've returned from Mecca!

Return from Mecca part Deux!

Those are threads about the factory visit and driving school that I will be doing next month.

It is entirely possible that your car is being built in August as they are not closed for the whole month. Your car is more than likley an LSS car (this would explain why it is still not built).
If however your car is a touring package or standard car it would tend to indicate that your dealer is sliding the entire list in order to cash in on the $10 - 20K being offered by latecoming barnaby bucks types....
I am #8 at my dealership(LSS Laser Blue) and have been told to expect the car in late sept to mid Oct.

As far as the $999 clear bra.. I work at a Porsche dealership and could get the clear bra done for free. The port installed clear bra is way superior IMHO, no bubbles, no dirt, installed by someone that has dealt with the specific curves of the Elise time and time again, Lotus watermarks on each piece, and the all important "under factory warranty".. I'm happily paying the $999.
However the Perma Plate (mop&glo in car speak) is a pure waste of $$ in my opinion....

August build

My car may be late even though I am 2 on the list. I ordered it with all options (touring, sport and hard top).

BTW- I did not call the dealer to find out about the date. He called me because of the celar coat issue and happened to tell me about the build date.

My attitiude is when the car gets here I'll be ready. In the meantime I have a GT3 as a daily driver.

Lrattner:

I emailed Palm Beach and they said their demo should be there shortly. When I saw the post of the blue car on the trailer, I thought it was yours until I saw that it didnt have the LSS.
Turns out that car was the first customer delivery at Matheny in Jacksonville.

I also replied back to them and asked if they knew if any customers cars were coming with the demo, but they havent gotten back to me yet. Hopefully there will be some happy local Elise owners within the next week.

Palm Beach is not sliding people on the list. I am in the top 10 and asked what colors had been ordered by the people who were in line before me, so that way I wouldnt be getting the same color as everyone else. I know that I am the first one getting my color and 2 other people in the first 10 are the first ones getting their color. It would be hard for them to sell the car out from under us since we know noone else has a lower position than us with the colors we selected.
