The Ultimate Engine Swap...

I don't know if this has been posted before, but it sure is amazing... The Lotus "Esthi", tuned in Germany with an Audi 2.7tt V6.

I've heard power outputs varying anywhere from stock to around 400hp.

This upgrade was reviewed in a German Car magazine (Auto Bild Test & Tuning July 2002). Brandes & Dschüdow (a German Lotus dealership has produced a 380bhp Elise S2. Together with Tekno engineering they have put an Audi V6-Biturbo engine (buld at Cosworth) in an Elise chassis extending the top speed to 315 km/h (190+mph) and lowering the 0-62mph to under 4 sec. Going along with this is a modification of the body panels making the car wider and a change of the name to Esthi < 2.7. The car also features an six speed gearbox (Audi A8), ABS, 17" front wheels, 18" rear wheels. Weight is up to 1.000 Kg and the car will be on sale in summer next year for approx. €95,000 (around $114,000 by today's exchange rate).

More Esthi info.

The Audi Powered conversion is the Esthi produced by Brandes & Dschüdow a German Lotus Dealer.

Brandes & Dschüdow looked around for suitable donors to do a swap for the Elise and settled upon an Audi engine.

The twin turbo, 2.7 litre V6 from the Audi S4 good for just over 400bhp!

The weight of the is obviously increased thanks to the larger motor, but it remains under 1000kg. They've worked on the weight distribution too, to try and keep to 35:65.

To ensure that rear weight doesn't dominate the car's handling, and to ensure that the immense power can be transmitted to the road, Brandes & Dschüdow have also developed a complete aerodynamic kit in the wind tunnel. Downforce and cooling to the engine were the priorities here, resulting in the subtle additions to the body. The body has also been modified to allow the rear clamshell to hinge at the rear.

In order to slow the car, an uprated brake system has been fitted with four caliper units from the Esprit used with 320mm discs at the front. A brake booster and ABS have also been fitted.

Keeping the whole car in harmony, the suspension has also been uprated with a new spring/damper combination, developed by the experts at Wilbers.
