Considering how much lighter the Elise is than the Celica GT-S the engine/flywheel were designed for means that the downsides of having a very light flywheel (less inertia for launching, less stored energy for driving at less than full throttle) are minimized.

I'd go as light as possible - I have Fidanza units in two cars and I feel they are perfectly streetable. Others may disagree, your mileage may vary.

yes, a flywheel is especially beneficial for Elise since it has a high reving engine. The momentum buildup is decreased dramatically
