Well...

A couple of points.

1) The Elise has no 5mph impact zone to protect. You might be doing more harm than good by installing this and it still doesn't help with the way the car looks at rest.
2) The license plate most likely does not hinder airflow enough to have an impact.

A couple of questions.

1) Who wants to be the first to try it?
2) Does anybody have a photo of an Elise with a U.S. license plate on the front?

Spoke to 'team miata' about the device
being used on the Elise. They said it has been tried already on the Elise and no
modification to make it usable was
possible.

I had one of these on my miata.
When ever you pulled too close to a parking stall barrier or went over a pot hole or on a street that the front end bottemed out, the License frame ( which extended below the bumper lip) bent the frame. With a flex joint, the frame flipped up and didn't bend the bracket or jam the frame ends into the bumper bodywork.

I built one that swong both in and out, with a spring to center it.

- The latest thought concerning our affixing a front plate, involves velcro attached to the back of a licence plate holder, instead of screwinginto the mini-plate holding area. Since the velcro would be attached to the clear film, and not the fiberglass itself, it should not be able to damage the car if the license plate is ever hit and comes off. My only concern is if the velcro remains weatherproof so as to not
lose its holding ability?

Industrial velco might work

I've used some industrial velcro-like stuff that I think was made by 3M. It's made of hard plastic (maybe PVC), and has little spheres atop rods instead of the hooks/loops that fabric velcro has. It had excellent strength as wasn't effected by dirt or water. I don't know how it would hold up to sunlight, but it probably isn't an issue.

At least in California, you're required to have front plates, but they don't need to have tags, and I remember seeing a guy on the news a few years ago that had made his own custom license plates, and apparently that's legal in CA (but he was pulled over all the time and had to carry a copy of the motor vehicle code in his car to show the cops, which sometimes ended up in him having to show a judge.) I think I'm going to put the normal plate on the back and have something made that exactly fits the front with my plate number on it.
