Body work hole

I have just got my Elise and looking over the car I find a square hole in the back of the car between the two license plate lights.

Looking at the LA show photos I see these cars have them also.

Does anyone know what it is for or why it is there? Everything else is so neat and tidy it looks a bit odd, but it is hidden from view to all but the keenest eyes.

Yes, they all have em. I'd guess it is some sort of access hole for service or assembly.

The car is too lite for that. It would make the nose come off the ground. Nice thought though.
