Wink Best synthetic oil?

After doing a little internet research, I've come to the conclusion that all synthetic oils are equal. It seems that biases dictate which oil one seems to prefer. Any thoughts on which one is better for the US Elise, and can one change the grade (10-50 or 10-40)? I live in NC, warmer in summer but not blistering, cool (mid teens possible in winter). I keep mine garaged.

Keep with the recommended viscosity unless you're overheating above 250 degrees often and/or race it consistently.

Several synths are available whith painful heated debates on which is "best". Ferrari of Denver uses Mobil1 on Lotus Elises. Here are a few good ones:

Mobil1
Castrol Syntec
Amsoil Redline
Royal Purple

I've read -some- discussion that Castrol Syntec maintains it's viscosity a tad longer than the others, as the distance between the two numbers slowly degrades from a 5-50 to more of a 10-30 by 800 miles or so on several tests. Castrol was able to maintain 5-50 for about 1000 miles before it degraded to 10-30 quality.

I don't use synthetic oils. I'm convinced they are as good, perhaps a tiny bit better for most applications, considerably better for extreme cold, but not worth the cost for my applications. And Mark (and several other posters on this forum) is a dyed in the wool Amsoil fan, and apparently for good reasons. However, if I remember right, Mark has said in the past that he doesn't know that Amsoil is better than some of the other synthetics.

+1 this is what I've been using for almost 3 years. It has the zinc additives that the new formula gasoline engine synthetic oils do not.
