Adjusting Ride Height

For the sport package the ride height is adjustable, I understand. How do you change the ride height?

Actually the standard and sport Elise suspension should be ride height adjustable. The sport package adds a stiffer spring and shock package.

The Elise uses an adjustable spring perch that changes ride height via a clip on the shock body. Changing ride height with this method is a little more difficult than your standard treaded shock body “coil over” suspension but still effective for fine tuning the suspension.

How does one adjust this clip exactly? Do you have to climb under the car? put it on a lift? need a ratchet with a universal joint and crows foot or what?

If the spring clip is like the Koni shock, you'll not be able to corner balance the car with clip positions - they're only a rough ride height adjustment.

Jack the car up and see if the spring is completely unloaded. If it is, you should be able to slide the spring perch off the clip, and move the clip to its new position. To lower the car, you'd move the clip down. If it's not unloaded, you'll need to remove the shock/spring assembly from the car. Use a spring compressor to compress the spring to the point where you can raise the spring perch enough to move the clip to the desired position.

I'm sure someone will make some cost effective coilovers for the car in this country soon (Ground Control doubles??). The inability to corner balance the car is a big negative in racing. I'd like to hear how close the corner weights are from people who have had them on the scales.

Cheers,

Jeff

There is a new alternative

I've been told that Spax in England has finally brought out an adjustable suspension that's threaded, instead of the circlip style...and it's reasonable. Has anyone heard anything about it?
