Open Question: Pads

Ladies and Gentlemen,

After a recent track outing, it occurred to me that I probably ought to start thinking about new brake pads: I'd like to have a set in the tool box, when the time comes. I believe the US-market cars are delivered with Ferrodo pads installed. Does anyone have a good source for these? How about other options? I'd be especially interested to hear from you folks on the other side of The Pond...

What are you looking for?

Are you looking for aggressive street pads or track pads? I've tried to get away with aggressive street pads on the track and came away disappointed. However, it may work with an Elise given its light weight. Ferrado makes very good pads. Although I've never tried them personally, I hear DS2500 is one of the best and the most aggressive street pads available (just do a google search for vendors). I've tried various track pads and nothing compares to the Cobalt Friction race pads (last I heard, they'll come up with pads to fit Elise). They'll suck your eye balls out. I believe Ferrado DS3000+ are pretty comparable. All three pads dust a lot. Race pads will definitely make noise.

Check out the Elise forums in the UK - there are a lot of discussions about suspension/brakes/mods/etc. They've had the cars a lot longer than us and have got a lot of experience with tuning....

A good place to start is: http://www.seloc.org/

I wrote this down after reading it on either this or a different Elise forum.
Elise s2...front pads same as subaru STi front.
rear pads same as Dodge Viper rear.
Both these machines have good support as far as aftermarket friction materials are concerned.
Investigate further before you invest.

We all use Pagid RS14 brake pads to race i our Elise in China. This is the best & most suitable for Elise S1 or S2. We have tried many others but Pagid RS14 is the one to use.
