Brake squealing on 2005 Elise
Greetings,
Any new Elise owners experiencing any brake squealing? Just picked up my '05 and have some fairly loud squealing that occurs <5mph when stopping. Maybe this is a break-in issue? The manual makes no mention. Have tried making a few quick stops to smooth the pads, no help.

Mine does the same thing, 500 miles on her so far. If I do some hard breaking it seems to stop for a bit. My M3 did this also with stock pads, but when I got some better street/track pads it stopped.

Mine does the same thing, Have 150 miles on it so far, and the degree of squecking does appear to be diminishing.

Try to remove the pads, and rough them up. Then clean everything really good using brake cleaner and your problem should stop.
Or just get new pads.

I wouldn't worry about it - mine do it too. I've only got about 350 miles on the car so far, and I expect it's going to take a bit for the pads to bed in. With more miles and some serious use, the noise should go away.
But then again, with some of the more agressive compound pads I've used for track events on other cars, the noise never goes away. You just end up living with it. No big deal.
Not sure what the Elise's stock pad brand/compound is - but I would assume it's a little more agressive than your typical car, we are talking a Lotus here...

yep, relax. it should go away. my salesman told me after 100 - 200 lies the heavy metal sound should go away.
and it did! i have 650 now and they don't make that very loud noise any more. it is a bed-in issue as previously mentioned.

High performance pads like these have a very high metal content, and will make more noise than regular formulas, especially when cold.
It is unlikely that it will ever completely go away using the stock set up, and low noise formulas like Ceramic won't work as well.
