Most of the aftermarket setups are popular simply because the factory pad and disc replacements are expensive relative to the other options.
I've done several track days in the past year and haven't even experienced fade, much less fire. A guy with a pyrometer found that he wasn't even able to get enough heat into his brakes to fully take advantage of the full-race pads he'd swapped in.
