Blowout at 60mph! Hit The Gas, Not The Brake!
Re: Motor Trend -May '04' - Pgs 126-132
"The key to handling a blowout at 60mph is to go for the gas pedal, not the brake.
You should never stab the brakes; instead, nail the gas pedal. Only then can you gradually release the throttle, find a break in traffic and carefully steer to the side of the road to stop." Also:
* Always check tire pressure cold
* Check pressure at least once a month
* It's better to be a few PSI over than
under
* Always put new tires on the rear if you
are only replacing two tires
* Be smart about oversized wheel/tire
choices. The wrong (too large) combo
will diminish acceleration, braking, and
handling, rather than improve it.

What do you do when a deer runs out in front of you at about 80mph?

If it's a mature buck I think the Elise is low enough to go under.
Other wise you insurance company will be purchasing a lot of expensive body work.

I thought the little air-squeeze device behind the seat serves to deploy the wings and allows us to gain lift-off, thereby avoiding objects that suddenly appear in our path.

No, that only equalizes the pressure drop in the cabin induced by the sphincter pucker...

Seems like flippant journalism (suggestion) to me.
Blow out at which end of the car?
If the right side rear blows and you nail the gas, you'll be transferring weight quickly to the rear and considering that there is no way the flat is going to handle the load you're likely to quick spin into the left, or possibly oncoming lane.
I'd be keeping a steady throttle for a couple of secs then a gradual lift, while trying not to look down at my shorts.
If a front blows, I'll be concentrating on a straight steering wheel.
Either way, the Elise has a low polar moment of inertia so i definitely will not be making abrupt inputs of any kind.

yep... the old elise was to much understeer.. now its better.. but fast movements are out of the question
i put a shorter lock to lock ratio in my steering colum... it was perfect for trackdays to catch slides before the go flip flop.. but very hard to handle in long fast straights...

Good of me to make a comment and then not come back for a month to carry it on.
80 mph deer - slam on brakes and pray for deer life.
